Director of Communications
Ariel Gibbs is an Illinois native with a breadth of experience in the public service and the non-profit sector. Before joining the Honorable County Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe, she worked with City Council District Four as well as Communications Manager. She has also worked for the Chicago Urban League, Cook County Department of Corrections, and in State Legislature for Senator Ben Hueso (D-40) and Assemblymember Akilah Weber (D-79).
Ariel's passion is to foster change and empower underserved communities through education and writing. Ariel continues to work with advocates and impacted individuals on social injustices and criminal justice issues in San Diego. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she was also a student-athlete and team Captain for the Division I track and field team. In 2019, Ariel received her Master of Arts in Sociology from San Diego State University and completed the RISE San Diego Urban Leadership Fellowship program in 2020.
